Onset of winter: snow and sleet in NRW – news

Anyone who is on the streets in North Rhine-Westphalia on Friday should be particularly careful. Because it is getting wintery in places! According to information from the WDR weather department, rain comes to us in the morning from Belgium, which turns into sleet and snow above 200 meters. “This is currently already the case in the Aachen city region, for example“, says Jürgen Vogt from the WDR weather department.

During the day, this weather also reaches the Bergisches Land and Siegen-Wittgenstein. From a height of almost 300 meters, the sleet turns into snow – just like in the Eifel. The German Weather Service expects five centimeters of fresh snow there. The streets should be accordingly smooth. From midday on there could be snow and smooth roads in the Sauerland and Bergisches Land, and in the evenings there could still be snow in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.

On the Lower Rhine, sleet starts in the morning

There is noisy direction towards the Rhine WDR-Weather editorial rather a mixture of rain and sleet. Dense clouds come from the Netherlands; Grevenbroich, Mönchengladbach and Krefeld could be affected by sleet from the morning on. At noon the clouds move into the Ruhr area, where it is likely to mainly rain.

Temperatures in the mountains are around -2 to 0 degrees, in the plains during the day around six degrees – the sleet in the plains will therefore probably not last very long at these temperatures. The weekend should tend to be rainy, in the mountains there may be more snow showers.
