A match of DNA samples helped solve a murder case 25 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area, local authorities said yesterday, quoted by the Associated Press.
Prosecutors have charged inmate Danny Lamont Hamilton with murder on suspicion of drowning waitress Priscilla Lewis in an alleged rape and robbery at a restaurant in Croquet on September 24, 1996, the Counter-Costa County Sheriff’s Office said.
The murder has remained unsolved for decades, although detectives have conducted dozens of interrogations, presented a large body of evidence for analysis and issued several search warrants.
A breakthrough was made in the investigation last year when new evidence was sent to a DNA analysis laboratory. A coincidence was found that linked Hamilton to the case.
He is currently serving a life sentence in a prison near San Diego on charges of another sexual crime, BTA reports.
