New Consultation Committee on December 22

The Consultation Committee will meet again on December 22. This is reported by La Libre and has been confirmed to our editors. A few days before the holidays, the Consultation Committee will therefore re-evaluate the corona situation.

It is not yet clear what exactly is on the table of the planned Consultation Committee. Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon does want to argue in favor of lifting the existing restrictions on the culture and events sector again. He said this on Thursday in the Culture Committee of the Flemish Parliament, in response to questions from Orry Van de Wauwer (CD&V), Elisabeth Meuleman (Groen) and Filip Brusselmans (Vlaams Belang).

Last Wednesday, Jambon insisted on an early Consultation Committee and argued for a temporary limitation of indoor recreational activities in order to relieve the pressure of the fourth corona wave on the healthcare sector. Two days later, the Consultation Committee decided to ban indoor activities with more than 200 spectators.

This intervention immediately ran into strong criticism from the culture and events sector. But there is also criticism within the Flemish majority. “I am disappointed with the culture sector,” said CD&V MP Orry Van de Wauwer. According to him, the cultural sector was insufficiently heard when taking the measure.
