OLANCHO, HONDURAS.- The justice of the peace of municipality of La Unión, Olancho, who had been seriously injured this Wednesday, died this afternoon in a health center. The same ending had a legal professional who was shot in Danlí, El Paraíso.
The first victim, identified as Reinel Fúnez, was shot by unknown assailants as he was leaving his home.

In an attempt to save his life, relatives transferred him to a hospital in the area, where hours later his death was confirmed.
So far it is unknown what the motive for the crime was, so the Police Directorate of Investigations (DPI) carries out the investigations of the case.

Minutes after the death of Fúnez was reported, it was also reported that the lawyer Fabián Varela, who was attacked this afternoon on the Danli highway, El Paraíso, in the Pescadero sector, died in the assistance center where he was being treated surgically.

The legal professional was attacked by unknown persons when he was transporting in his vehicle with other people. Until now, more information about the bloody event is unknown.

Homicides in Honduras increased 16.2 percent in the first six months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, according to a report released by the Secretary of Security.
The report detailed that June closed with 372 violent deaths for a total of 1,875 murders in the first six months of 2021.
This figure is higher by 261 homicides than the 1,614 computed between January and June 2020, details the Honduran Police, which does not specify the causes of the increase in homicides in the first semester.
