Formation of Red Blood Cells
–
The formation of erythrocytes, also known as erythropoiesis, occurs in the bone marrow. Its formation is regulated by a glycoprotein hormone called erythropoietin. The first cell known as the erythrocyte-forming chain is called the proerythroblast. With the appropriate stimulation, these stem cells can be formed a lot of cells. Proerythrobals will then divide several times. These new cells from the first generation are called basophil erythroblasts because they can be stained with basic dyes. These cells contain very little hemoglobin.
