Nearly two-thirds of Germans believe Olaf Scholz will serve as chancellor for only one term, according to a poll released Wednesday.
According to a poll by YouGov, 20% of respondents believe that the “traffic light coalition” of the Social Democrats (SPD) in Scholz, the Green and Liberal Free Democrats (FDP), will collapse before the next Bundestag elections.
Another 44% of respondents believe that Scholch will remain in the Chancellor’s office for all four years, but will not run for office again.
Only 16% of Germans predict that Scholz will remain in Chancellery for a second term.
But only 1.3% of those polled believe that he could remain in the chair of the government for as long as his predecessor Angela Merkel, who has spent 16 years there.
The 63-year-old Scholz has repeatedly stated that the “traffic light coalition” is, in his opinion, a “long-term project” that will survive the current term of the legislature.
Although the current finance minister and vice-chancellor in Merkel’s government have promised that the new government will implement a “policy that will have a big impact”, only 22% of Germans expect a serious change.
Overall, 51% of respondents believe that the “traffic light coalition” will not bring much change to the country, while 16% do not expect any change.
11% of respondents did not have a specific opinion on this issue.-
At the same time, 55% of Germans say they are satisfied with Merkel’s performance as chancellor. Only 37% of respondents are dissatisfied with it, while 7% have not expressed any opinion on the issue.
