Florida: Boy had slipped on concrete pipes

Firefighters in Florida used heavy artillery to rescue a young boy from a sewer pipe. The child had slipped while playing on a pile of concrete pipes and had a leg and foot trapped.

Child was wedged in drainpipe

According to the “News-Press”, the incident took place on Monday in the community of Pine Manor with a population of 3,500. “The boy was wedged and stuck totally,” said fire department spokeswoman Amy Bollen. After trying unsuccessfully with water and lubricant, the rescuers carefully began to chisel open the pipe with a drill.

The boy was given earmuffs, safety glasses and a blanket. A firefighter crawled into the pipe to calm him down. In the end, the helpers managed to pull the child out. He only had a scratch on his knee and was handed over to his parents.

Fire department: The incident is a wake-up call for all parents

What happened to the boy is also a wake-up call for all parents, said Bollen. They would have to keep telling their children to stay away from construction sites. “You can see how quickly you can get stuck.” We have to make sure that our children know that too. ” (bst)
