Recently, social media has been busy with going viral regarding the Tengkleng stall in Solo Baru, which is said to be raising prices unreasonably, aka ‘ngepruk’ prices. The shop owner pours out his heart now his merchandise is empty of buyers.
“It’s quiet, mas, there are no buyers yet, yesterday there were also. It’s been quiet for the past few days,” said the shop owner, Mrs. Harsi, to reporters, Wednesday (12/8/2021).
The shop, which is located on the sidewalk in Grogol, Sukoharjo, now looks deserted today. Harsi, who had no education, didn’t know what to do to make his shop back to the way it was before. He knows that since his tengkleng stall has been widely discussed on social media, the number of visitors has decreased drastically.
“Usually I stop by, but yesterday I just glanced at it but didn’t stop by. Yes, since it was crowded, I’ve been talked about badly,” he said.
Harsi said that the actual price was in accordance with the buyer’s request. He never intended to crack or sell expensive.
“If the portion is small, it’s Rp. 15 thousand, big is Rp. 30 thousand. But sometimes buyers ask for it to be complete, using tongue, ears, ribs and brain, yes, it costs Rp. 50 thousand,” he explained.
In fact, he continued, sometimes there are buyers who add rice which he doesn’t count. But, it also does not matter.
Selling tengkleng has been done by Harsi for decades. Initially, Harsi was selling on Jalan Ir Soekarno, but because of the arrangement he had to move to several locations to the one he currently occupies.
“In the past, the first sale was with neighbors, in front of the atrium, then there was an arrangement and now it’s here,” recalls Harsi.
The quiet condition of the stall made Harsi nervous, he was unable to hold back his tears. Every now and then he wiped the tears that were dripping from his eyes, his voice trembled.
Again he told that the capital needed to sell is also not small. And if the merchandise does not sell, it is clear that he will bear the loss, even though he is alone.
“I take a rickshaw from home to here for IDR 50 for a round trip, a motorcycle taxi to take orders at the market IDR 20 thousand. For wholesalers the average is IDR 360 thousand,” he explained.
The lack of buyers has forced Harsi to reduce the supply of his processed products. From the usual 5 heads a day reduced to 3 heads. It’s still not finished as usual.
“My kulakan is already expensive, the goat’s head is only Rp. 150 thousand, how come some say the tengkleng is expensive. Because the ingredients are expensive,” he said.
Harsi also hopes that the condition of the stall can be crowded again or at least there are customers who are willing to stop by to taste the food.
