Livestock or agricultural production in low or floodplain fields until a few years ago was complicated. The agronomist Sebald Hahn explains how they are producing soybeans and other crops in the Artigas area, with a differentiated management of the soil and basic fertilization, taking care of the environment.

Two years ago they began to produce extensive crops in the Artigas area, Itapúa, in fields that were first cattle ranchers and then were used for rice production due to the flood. “When we started this project, we found a poorly drained soil, chemically very acidic, with a pH of 4 to 4.5, high concentration of aluminum, iron and deficient in phosphorus, calcium, sulfur. In short, an acid soil and poor in nutrients, therefore this poor fertility became a challenge for us ”, explained the person in charge of development, technical assistance and production of Agroganadera Pirapey.
Reclaim the soil
When asked what was the first decision they made, engineer Hahn said: “First we had to work on the weaknesses in the terrain. Starting with the drainage and chemical correction of the soil, with the application of calcareous, we also use differentiated fertilizers. As this is an acidic soil, we opted for magnesian thermophosphate, since it has calcium, phosphate, sulfur, magnesium and silicon that do not acidify the soil, we also add calcareous and later potassium silicate, thus increasing the content of these beneficial elements, both for the soil and for the plant ”.
Aggregate of biologicals
He continued saying that with the soil recovery work, after the application of chemical fertilizers, they added Bacsol, which is a biological product that carries life, that is, they are microorganisms that are “packaged” and that perform biocontrol functions, decomposition of organic matter, helping to provide nutrients for the roots. In addition, being a soil improver and helping the proper development of plants, said engineer Sebald Hahn.
Soy inoculation
Once the soil received the products for its correction, fertilization and better biology, “the moment of sowing has arrived and that is when the soybean receives an inoculation.” He added that to achieve a good seed start it is very important that the soybean seeds receive a good inoculation. “We inoculate it with Biogenium GTI, which contains the Brazilian azospirillum and bacilli that help make phosphorus and potassium available, soil structuring microorganisms and yeasts, all of this in a liquid product that is applied directly to sowing”, he added. There is also an amino acid of natural enzymatic synthesis called Orgasol, which contains primary and secondary amino acids, as well as other types that act as “anti-stressors” for the plant, so it is applied in a foliar way, in conjunction with the biological product.
Furrow fertilization
Engineer Sebald Hahn also explained that the soybeans that are growing in Artigas, Itapúa, received the proper fertilization and treatment to express their potential. “For us, all this work on soil correction, chemical and biological fertilization, inoculation and foliar fertilization is an investment. At the time of planting soybeans we apply a combined mixture of soluble phosphorus with Yorin magnesium thermophosphate, because the latter has a pH between 7 and 8, in addition to having gradual release phosphorus, which means that no matter how much it rains , the phosphorus will be available to the plant when it requires it. And finally, he limited the presence of micronutrients in magnesium thermophosphate.
One of the benefits of stabilizing the pH in the furrow in these acid soils is that it improves the nodulation in the roots of the plants, in conjunction with the application of bradiorrizodium inoculant in the soil per hectare.
Foliar Fertilizers
Finally when asked if foliar fertilizers can be combined and applied with defensive products so as not to be making several passes of the sprayer in soybean crops, the interviewee pointed out: “Within the use of these foliar products we have the Yoguen line, where applications with fungicides and insecticides can be combined, including glyphosate in post-emergent drying. Orgasol AM10 can be used with fungicide, herbicide and insecticide without problem, the only point to keep in mind is that when working with low volumes of this solution, the doses to be applied must be taken care of ”.
