There are no reasons why Omicron vaccines should fail, says WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) gave more information on the effectiveness of the vaccines Front of Omicron variant of the coronavirus, whose spread has been cause for concern.

Ryan also said that the Omicron would not cause more serious forms of covid-19.

The official also pointed out that studies they are still in a early phase, since the variant was only detected on November 24. Since that date, cases have been identified in some 40 countries.

Earlier, in a press conference, the director of WHO-Europe, Hans Kluge, said that the new variant is growing and we must be “concerned” and be “prudent”, because data is lacking and it is “too early” to do concrete recommendations, hence it is necessary to keep a “cool” head.

“The problem now is Delta and any success against Delta today is a gain over Ómicron for tomorrow,” Kluge said, insisting that it is about stabilize the pandemic and that this does not affect a single variant, but “all at once”.

The WHO-Europe director praised countries such as South Africa for their transparency in sharing data on new variants, criticized restrictions on flights from Africa and called for international solidarity because covid-19 is “a global problem that can only be solved globally ”.
