Before the end of year celebrations, the Red Cross is appealing to Belgians to donate blood.

The holiday season usually coincides with weeks of very low blood donation. So, to prepare for this period, the Red Cross wants to take advantage of the three remaining weeks to obtain sufficient stocks of blood to pass the end of the year serenely.
For now, however, the goal is far from being achieved. “Some blood groups are missing and the overall stock is too low”, explains the Red Cross. What is more, following the last Consultative Committee, many collections have been canceled in companies without having the opportunity to replace them. “There are hundreds of pockets that cannot be collected and that we will not be able to count on for the weeks to come. “
The Red Cross therefore recalls that many collections are still being organized in towns and villages by the end of the year, they can all be found on our website: www.DonneurDeSang.be.
What is more, to meet the expectations of some donors who do not always have the possibility of freeing themselves during the week to make a donation, two days of exceptional opening of all the collection centers will be organized on Saturday 18.12.2021 and 08.01. 2022.
“Having enough blood means giving patients the care they need, but also allowing nursing staff, already under pressure at the moment, to work without worrying about the supply of blood products. An element that takes on its importance when we see how difficult the coming days will be for them. This is why it is essential that our donors do not postpone their donation and that the population mobilize to come and give in our centers and blood drives, ”recalls the Red Cross.
Making appointments
For everyone’s safety, making an appointment is mandatory at the collection centers. The village collections, which generally have more facilities for respecting safety distances, are mostly open access. Donors are still invited to check the website www.DonneurDeSang.be.
Any donor wishing to make an appointment can do so via the website www.DonneurDeSang.be. All he has to do is find the center or collection of his choice there and click on the “I make an appointment” button.
Wearing a mask is mandatory, if the donor does not have one, he will be provided with one.
