The first snow of the season could blanket the Big Apple in white as early as Wednesday, and the New York City Department of Sanitation is already preparing for the potential contingency.
The agency issued a “winter operations advisory” starting at 6 am Wednesday, according to a statement.
DSNY said flakes and the possibility of sleet are expected, but no significant build-up on the roads is anticipated. The salt spreaders are filled and ready to use, should road conditions become a problem, the agency said.
The New York City Department of Emergency Management advises New Yorkers to be cautious and use public transportation if possible.
The National Weather Service expects less than an inch to fall in the late morning or early afternoon with no build-up expected. However, New York may remain dry and receive no snow if rainfall remains in the south, the agency claims.
“While scattered rain and sleet are possible, the greatest possibility is concentrated in the eastern areas of Long Island and Connecticut,” the National Weather Service tweeted.
Tomorrow’s high around when it is supposed to snow in New York will be 39 degrees, which is not exactly conducive to snow production. But be vigilant and don’t remove your snow boots just yet.
