Eating organ meat or more familiar with the term offal may be heaven for some people. This offal is actually quite nutritious food for humans.

In general, people most often consume offal derived from cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, and ducks.

The offal that are often taken and can be turned into delicious dishes are the brain, intestines, lungs, liver, heart, tongue, tripe, and even testes.

These offal contain lots of vitamin B12, folate, and are an excellent source of iron and protein. So what about the cholesterol content in offal?

Summarizing from Healthline, Tuesday (7/12/2021), it is undeniable that offal is rich in cholesterol. In 3.5 ounces, or approximately 100 grams of beef brain, contains 1.033 percent of the reference daily intake (RDI) for cholesterol.

Meanwhile, the kidneys and liver have 239 percent and 127 percent of the RDI of cholesterol, respectively. This large amount of cholesterol is often associated with clogged arteries, medications, and heart disease.

When a person eats cholesterol-rich foods, the liver responds by producing less cholesterol.
