Gerhard Struber would like to remain head coach in the US soccer league MLS and has therefore turned down the post as assistant coach at Manchester United. The Salzburg resident confirmed the interest of the “Red Devils” and their new head coach Ralf Rangnick on the Sky program “Talk und Tore” on Monday. This honors him very much, said Struber, but he does not want to give up the path he has chosen with Red Bull New York overnight. “We have a lot to do.”
It is no secret that he and Rangnick know each other well. He had of course “started thinking”, said Struber, who worked as a youth coach at the academy under the former Salzburg sports director Rangnick. The former Liefering, WAC and Barnsley trainer emphasized that he wanted to remain head coach. “That is the decisive factor for me that I can experience the greatest impact and the greatest output in this role as head coach.”
Struber still has an ongoing contract in New York until the end of 2023. With his club, the 44-year-old last failed in the first play-off round at the Philadelphia Union.
