Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor Party) announced on Monday that stronger measures will be presented, which people will notice in their everyday lives.

– We must ensure that the health service is not overloaded, and that people get the health care they need. This also applies to patients who are ill for other reasons, Kjerkol told NTB on Monday

The press conference will also be attended by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labor Party) and Minister of Finance Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Social Democrats), as well as Health Director Bjørn Guldvog and NIPH Director Camilla Stoltenberg.

Assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad tells NTB that he believes the measures that come on Tuesday will reduce the pressure on the health service.

Measures proposed

The Norwegian Directorate of Health and the National Institute of Public Health worked intensively this weekend and on Monday to arrive at the recommendation to the government.

– We have assessed the situation thoroughly and proposed measures that we believe will reduce the burden on the health service in Norway, Nakstad says to NTB.

He adds that it is up to the government to take a position on the measures.

The National Institute of Public Health’s head of infection control, Line Vold, has also confirmed to NRK that stricter measures are being introduced.

Will provide compensation

NTB is aware that the government has worked on further crisis measures to compensate for the financial consequences of the infection control measures that are now to be introduced.

The business community has especially called for the reintroduction of the state compensation scheme for companies with a high drop in turnover.

In addition, there has been a desire for the state to take a larger share of the bill when companies have to lay off employees due to the infection control measures.

The number of entries is increasing

In the last 24 hours, 4,117 corona infections have been registered in Norway, and in the last seven days, an average of 3,687 corona infections have been registered per day.

The number of hospitalized coronary patients is increasing. On Monday, 295 corona patients were hospitalized. There were 33 more than the day before, and that is only 30 fewer than the peak through the pandemic of 325 corona patients. It was April 1, 2021.

82 of the corona patients are now in the intensive care unit, and among them 47 are on a respirator.
