Undocumented victims of the devastating passage of Storm Ida in New York in early September will have more time to apply for assistance, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Sunday.

The deadline for New Yorkers who do not meet the requirement for FEMA assistance was extended to January 4. Find more information on the state’s website here.

To qualify for assistance under the extended assistance program, New Yorkers do not have to qualify for FEMA assistance or live with someone who can receive that federal assistance.

“With this extension to request resources, excluded New Yorkers who do not qualify for FEMA relief and community organizations on the ground can now gather all the information they need to apply for the funding they need to rebuild,” Hochul said Sunday.

The governor’s weekend announcement notes that 54 households in New York have received a combined $ 228,376 in assistance since the end of September. Another 31 households have been approved and await your financial support.

New Yorkers who meet the criteria and are seeking help can call the hotline at 1-800-566-7636 between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The hotline is available in more than 200 languages.

Governor Hochul and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in September that $ 27 million is available to assist undocumented survivors of the storms and floods caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. This funding will be distributed through grants to an established network of community organizations, named in the preceding paragraph, and will be provided to New Yorkers who are not eligible for storm recovery assistance through FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program or other media.
