Beaten by Frida Karlsson – again. Then Petter Northug reacts. – Therese Johaug is stressed, he says.
Therese Johaug has been the ski world’s big dominant in recent seasons and has been almost impossible to beat during most races. Before this season, she had, for example, not lost a race of 10 kilometers classic, individual start, in six (!) Years, but directly in this year’s premiere she was beaten by Frida Karlsson.
Lost again
Johaug won the next day in the hunt start, but this weekend the next proof came that the win in the premiere was no coincidence. In the same competition format but in free style, the Swede won after a super drama. Johaug was 0.3 seconds slower, and afterwards it was a lot about her, and the Norwegian leaders’ anger, towards the Russian Tatjana Sorina.
Johaug meant that Sorina went on her poles, but the anger has been met with criticism and it does not seem to be a Johaug in full harmony. At least that’s what Petter Northug thinks. This year, the legend is a TV expert for Norwegian TV2, and is not afraid to stick out his chin and say what he thinks and feels about things that happen in the ski world.
“Do not like the press”
And that Karlsson beat Johaug on two occasions is already clearly a big snack, and Northug now believes that it is a situation that Johaug does not like.
– She does not like the press that a young Frida Karlsson puts on her. She also uses energy to get angry at Tatjana Sorina, who went too close to her in the race. She also delivered a mediocre relay distance, to be her. We are already looking forward to the next duel between Karlsson and Johaug, he says.
Norwegian leaders have said that Johaug lost significantly more than three tenths due to Sorina’s pole vaulting, but Frida Karlsson can still be happy with two wins this season. She also leads the overall world cup, ahead of Johaug, and in third place is Maja Dahlqvist, who has also won two competitions so far.
