Queen Elizabeth is in mourning.
On Friday, in fact, one of her closest friends, Ann Fortune FitzRoy, Duchess of Grafton, has passed away. The woman passed away at the ripe old age of 101, having served the Royal Family for 69 years.

In 1980 she was awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, an honor that was granted to her by Queen Elizabeth for her services. Also in 1954 Queen Elizabeth was the godmother of Ann Fortune’s second child.
Therefore after the departure of Prince Philip, the beloved husband, for Elizabeth it is time for another blow to the heart with also the passing of dear friend Ann Fortune (of which we can see a photo, in the company of the Queen, a few lines below).
Ann’s role during Elizabeth’s reign was that of ‘Mistress of the Robes‘, that is to say a high-ranking lady-in-waiting, with the task of take care of the sovereign’s clothes and jewels, a role of great responsibility.
His arrival at the Royal House it took place in 1953 to coincide with the coronation of Elizabeth as Queen of England. His main role, before becoming Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, was to ‘Lady of the BedChamber‘, that is to say The Queen’s official camaraderie.

The Duchess of Grafton she was born in 1920 and married in 1946 the Duke of Grafton, Hugh FitzRoy, who passed away in April 2011. The title of Duchess of Grafton received him three years after her marriage to Hugh, after becoming ‘Mistress of the Wardrobe’.
She was the mother of five children, two boys and three girls.
The Duchess held one of the most important duties for all various occasions, including state visits. Ann Fortune’s role was officially recognized by the Queen in 1980 when he elevated her to the rank of Duchess of Grand Cross.
It is not a lucky time for the Queen, after the aforementioned loss of her husband and the worsening of health problems, for her the disappearance of one of the closest people.
