Who? They are called Rym * or Sara *. His name is Ali *. All three are foreigners who came to France to study or work, sometimes for decades. Zia Oloumi is a lawyer specializing in foreign persons law. Philippe Loos, finally, is secretary general of the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Where? All of these people were met in Nice, sometimes at the Nice-Matin premises, sometimes at their workplaces.
When? Between May and October 2021.
Why? From December 2020, refugees were talking about administrative difficulties with the prefecture. Then in the following months, we received emails to alert us. They were people who simply wanted to renew their residence permit. So far, they were in order without problem. These delays have created dire situations for some people. We wanted to know more, and determine what the problem was.
Comment? For this investigation, other people contacted us but did not wish to testify afterwards. We also wanted to hear from a lawyer specializing in these cases, and of course, the prefecture, who explains why it had these dysfunctions and indicates how things are going today.
*: the first names have been changed.
