The BBC news anchor and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec had impressed the jury with their American Smooth in the Tower Ballroom, but a combination of lower judges’ marks and audience votes got them into the dreaded dance-off for the first time.
The pair competed against dance-off veterans Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse, who performed a musical theater and jazz number on The Trolley Song from Meet Me in St. Louis.

The decision of who should be rescued rests with Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Shirley Ballas.
For tech and performance, I want to save Graeme and Oti, said Craig. This is really tough, but the couple I want to save myself for a more energetic and detailed performance are Graeme and Oti, Darcey added.
From what I’ve seen, I have to choose the couple that did the more accomplished and overall stronger job, and that’s why I think Graeme and Oti, Bruno explained before Shirley confirmed that she too Would have saved cricketer and his dance partner.
Silverton was gracious in defeat on the dance floor: I really couldn’t have asked for anything better. I got to dance twice, got in a hot air balloon twice, and loved it twice, she said.
She paid tribute to her partner Aljaz, to whom she would be forever grateful.
I am so happy to have had you as my teacher. And as you said, we learned so much from each other, we became such good friends, and you made this an amazing experience. We had so much fun, we worked hard, but just thanks, she added.
Aljaz, who seemed to have had a real bond with the Silverton family throughout the series, didn’t hold back when it came to praising his celebrity partner.
Going out every week and doing incredible things, for someone who has never performed in their life, I’m so incredibly proud of you, he said.
You taught me so much, you are such an amazing woman, you are an amazing mom and thank you honestly, it was a great show. I will never forget it and thank everyone who supported us.
