PlayStation will reportedly launch its own Game Pass variant this spring

Given all the success Microsoft has had with its Xbox Game Pass subscription scheme, many have wondered when Sony would follow up with a similar offer. Now it seems that it is on its way, at least if we can believe a new report from Bloomberg.

PlayStation Now is baked into the new PlayStation Plus offering.

Sony

According to the website, Sony has concrete plans to launch a new subscription solution for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The subscription combines the two existing offers PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, and gives players access to both online gaming and a library of classic PlayStation titles.

So far, the new scheme goes by the tentative name Spartacus. According to Bloomberg, the subscription will admittedly be launched as PlayStation Plus, while the PlayStation Now name will disappear.

At launch, the new PlayStation Plus will have three different levels at different prices. The first level gives players all the benefits of today’s PlayStation Plus – that is, the ability to play online and a bunch of free games every month.

Level two includes a bunch of PlayStation 4 games, and eventually also PlayStation 5 games. Here, the offer will differ somewhat from the Xbox Game Pass, as Sony apparently will not include new launches in the subscription.

The most expensive level gives players access to extensive demos for new games, as well as streaming games so you do not have to install them on the console. In addition, the third level includes access to classic games from PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable.

Sources who have spoken with Bloomberg say that the new PlayStation Plus will be launched in the spring of 2022, but a more accurate date has not been set. Sony has not yet commented on the rumors.
