KLM enters into a codeshare with the new Italian airline ITA Airways, the successor to Alitalia. Recently, ITA already traded up to SkyTeam.
The two companies announced the partnership earlier this week. Thanks to the codeshare agreement, KLM passengers can more easily book tickets for flights within Europe operated by ITA Airways, and vice versa. KLM currently offers eighteen daily flights between Amsterdam and Milan (both Malpensa and Linate), Turin, Genoa, Rome, Venice, Florence, Bologna and Catania. Thanks to the partnership, travelers flying to Rome, Catania, Genoa and Venice will have more choices.
They can fly from Rome Fiumicino with ITA to Palermo, Reggio, Calabria, Bari, Brindisi, Lamezia Terme and Trieste in Italy. In addition, passengers can fly from ‘the eternal city’ to Malta and the Albanian Tirana. ITA Airways customers will have easier access to KLM’s European destinations. This is particularly useful for travelers who want to fly from Italy to the United Kingdom or Scandinavia, given the large number of cities that KLM flies in those areas.
“It is very good news that KLM and ITA Airways have reached an agreement so soon after the departure of Alitalia to cooperate on flights within Europe. Italy is an important aviation market in Europe, for both business and leisure travelers. Collaboration is of great importance in order to be able to serve our customers from all corners of the world via Schiphol in the best possible way.”
Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM
