13 people killed in volcanic eruption in Indonesia

Semeri volcano on the island of East Java erupts on saturday, emitting a thick cloud of smoke and hot ash that wraps the villages near the volcano in the dark.

The evacuation of the population in the vicinity of the volcano continues, and at least 1,000 people have been deported from the villages near the volcano.

A spokesman for the National Disaster Reduction Agency found that 41 people had suffered severe burns.

Nearly 3,700 meters high, Semeru is one of the most active volcanoes on the island of Java. It has erupted several times since last December.
