In recent days, several municipalities have reported that they suspect that the omicron variant of the coronavirus has affected the municipality.
–
– There are many reports of suspected cases that are handled by the municipalities in collaboration with the outbreak group at FHI, and there are many microbiological laboratories around the country that do screening and also sequencing to confirm or deny omicron. There may therefore be reports from individual municipalities outside our overall overviews at national level, says department director Line Vold to Dagbladet.
On Saturday, two new cases of the virus were confirmed in Bærum. This was stated by municipal chief physician Frantz Leonard Nilsen.
– We probably have about seven to eight cases of suspected omicron virus. Only two have been confirmed so far. Most of the suspected cases are related to the Christmas table at Aker Brygge, but we also have some suspected cases that have been in South Africa or flights from South Africa, he says.
FHI has only confirmed 19 cases of the variant so far in Norway. But the real number may be far higher. In Oslo, more than 90 people have been infected with covid-19 after a Christmas dinner at Aker Brygge, and at least 13 of these have now received confirmation of omicron.
In addition, two confirmed cases in Øygarden municipality and four travelers come to Gardermoen from South Africa.
But from Monday 6 December, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) aims to report confirmed omicron cases daily.
FHI will probably come up with an updated risk assessment of the omicron variant for the week.
– We are constantly working to update risk assessments, collect information from other countries and other environments and update scenarios, Line Vold told NTB on Saturday.
