Thursday, December 2, a 79-year-old woman was the victim of a theft at her home in Rouen (Seine-Maritime). A man, posing as a water service officer, stole from him gold jewelry after returning home.
Two stolen gold rings
Around 10:30 am, the individual knocks on his door. He explains to the elderly lady that there is a problem with the water system and that he must carry out checks. The man manages to get inside the house. He then proceeds to a false test with a chemical product, and announces that the toxic vapors could damage the gold objects, tells us a judicial source.
He then asks the victim to put his gold objects in a plastic bag, and to place it in the fridge to protect them. The victim does so and gives him two gold rings. He ran off moments later with the booty. According to this same legal source, he would have an accomplice, who was watching in the street.
Pay attention !
Since this incident, an investigation is underway to try to identify the author (s) of this theft by trickery. In addition, the Seine-Maritime police are sending a message of prevention, in particular to the elderly and vulnerable who are regularly the target of these types of scams. “We must not open to people if they do not have an appointment, and especially never let them enter the home. ”
