Trainer Indonesian National team Shin Tae-yong reveal the reason for ignoring Ilija Spasojevic ke AFF Cup 2020. The striker’s playing style is different from his scheme.
Shin Tae-yong’s decision not to call Spaso got the spotlight. Because the Bali United striker is currently topping the BRI Liga 1 2021 provisional top score list with a score of 12 goals.
But Shin Tae-yong instead chose four forwards whose goal combinations didn’t even reach half of Spaso’s goals. The quartet of Ezra Walian, Hanis Saghara, Dedik Setiawan, and Kushedya Yudo have only scored five goals.
“For Spaso, he scored a lot of goals in the Indonesian League. But when he started training camp, he seemed very tired if he played what I wanted,” said Shin Tae-yong when giving a press statement, Saturday (4/12/2021).
“Indeed, his finishing was very good, but for this tournament he will not be able to participate,” he explained.
The discrepancy in playing style was already allegedly the reason Shin Tae-yong did not glance at Spaso. The Korean coach is known to like players with good physique.
In practice, Shin Tae-yong often holds physical exercises to increase the endurance of Indonesian players in training. The Indonesian national team is said to have players with good abilities. but physically disorganized.
Spaso participated in the Indonesian National Team TC at the Training Center (TC) last May. At that time Spaso was one of the players prepared for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, but failed to penetrate the final squad that competed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The forwards selected at that time were Osvaldo Haay, Kushedya, M Rafli, Saddam Emiruddin, and Braif Fatari. After that, the front line continued to change.
Another Persija young player, Taufik Hidayat, was one of the players he had looked up to because of Saddam Emiruddin’s injury. After that, another new figure appeared, namely Hanis Saghara, Ramai Rumakiek, to Dedik Setiawan.
The three names above are players who are still being retained besides Kushedya. Plus Ezra Walian, whose administrative problems with FIFA have been resolved, is now also Shin Tae-yong’s mainstay.
But there are common criteria for attackers that Shin Tae-yong tends to defend. Namely, forwards who can move shrewdly, not attackers who rely on the service of their colleagues.
Dedik or Kushedya are examples of players who are good at playing and controlling the ball. In this regard, Kushedya stands out the most because he was previously a winger.
Temporary Spaso is a target-man striker type. Many tap-in goals were born from his partner’s passes or passes that he managed to use well.
