For the second time this season, the Antillean duo beat Mexicans Miguel Ángel Sarabia and Raymond Stephens, this time 21-19 and 21-13, to advance to the contest for the title of the inaugural edition of the multisport fair in America.
The newest of the Cuban couple, Díaz, commented on the high motivation for the final fight against Brazilians Rafael-Renato Lima, although he assured that “there is no trust, the purpose is to go out on the field and do things well.”
Aged 19 and in just his second international event, he assured the excellent rapport with his teammate Reyes and in words of thanks he recognized the support of the coaches at the National School and the family.
Endorsed by a bronze at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018, Reyes adds the greatest experience within the national couple and with a view to the clash against the South Americans underlined the optimism in the group in pursuit of making the junior Pan American gold a reality.
The Cubans, without defeats in four presentations and only one set against, debuted in Cali-Valle with successes in zone B over Bolivians Carlos Andrés Chacón-Ruddy Salvatierra 2-0, then beat the Brazilian team 2-1 and in The semifinals defeated the Ecuadorians Dany León-Joffre Jurado in straight sets.
