At the end of the 13th ordinary session of its Board of Directors held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Kinshasa, the Insurance Regulation and Control Authority in the Democratic Republic of Congo (ARCA) proceeded with the granting of authorization for new insurance operators.
These are four insurance brokerage companies, a health insurance manager and a bank for the distribution of insurance products.
According to a press release from the ARCA sanctioning this session, “the decision of its Board of Directors came after a careful analysis of the applicants’ files in accordance with the prescriptions of the Insurance Code and the regulations in force within the ARCA . “
Among the authorized companies are in particular:

• LA ROYALE D’ASSURANCES SARL;
• ORBIS OR;
• EXA SAS.
01 Health insurance manager
• RDC SA INSURANCE MANAGEMENT GROUP (GGA RDC SA)
01 Bank for the distribution of insurance products
• RAWBANK SA is authorized to distribute insurance products on behalf of RAWSUR SA and RAWSUR LIFE SA, via its banking network.
According to the same press release, the Congolese insurance market currently has ten (10) insurance companies including 3 in the Life branch and 7 in the Accidents and Miscellaneous Risks (ARD) branch, 20 insurance brokerage companies, 2 insurance brokers, 1 health insurance manager, 1 general insurance agent, 2 commercial banks and 2 reinsurance companies established in the DRC in accordance with sub-regional agreements ratified by the country.
The Acting Director General of ARCA, Alain Kaninda Ngalula, took this opportunity to recall that in accordance with article 286 of the Insurance Code, it is formally prohibited to take out direct insurance abroad for a risk concerning a person, property or liability, located on the national territory, or with a company not approved by ARCA to carry out insurance operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
