The Var Assize Court will remain permanently in Draguignan

“After more than 40 years of fear of one day seeing the Assize Court leave our city, we obtained the modification of decree n ° 75-929 of October 7, 1975 which provided for its presence here on a temporary basis”, writes the deputy, this Thursday, in a press release also signed by the mayor of the city of the dragon, Richard Strambio.

The Assize Court is supposed to be located in the capital of the department, which is Toulon for the Var. Draguignan was the prefecture until 1974.

the “draft decree” concerning this final installation will be “soon sent to the Council of State to modify in this sense the criminal procedure which will ensure and reaffirm the judicial presence of Draguignan”, can we read in the letter written by the Minister of Justice on Wednesday.

Renovations

In addition, the judicial tribunal will benefit from “nearly 4 million euros in real estate investments”, indicates the member of the Var.

Studies and diagnostics for the renovation work will be launched next year for a start of work expected in 2023.

“With this historic decision, Draguignan is once again consolidated in its role as a central town in Haut and Est-Var and recognized as a center of attraction essential to the development of the Var department.”
