An absurd hit by the Gunners
In the 16th minute of the game at Old Trafford, extremely bizarre events occurred. Martin Odegaard crossed from a corner, and as the ball reached United’s sixteen, the hosts’ central midfielder Fred stepped on David de Gei’s foot. The Red Devils’ goalkeeper fell on the pitch and the ball was hit in front of the penalty area. There was Emile Smith Rowe, who jumped from a distance towards the United goal. The football passed the hosts’ goalkeeper lying down and fell into the Manchester net.
Referee Martin Atkinson initially interrupted the game and called the Red Devils a foul, but when the VAR system told him that De Gea had been stepped on by a teammate, he changed his mind. After one of the most ridiculous goals in the Premier League in recent years, Arsenal took the lead at Old Trafford.
Michel Arteta’s team started the game very well in Manchester. The young eleven Gunners seemed more mature and much better organized than the Red Devils. It was not a big surprise anyway, because Arsenal has been performing very solidly in the Premier League lately.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, lost the last two league matches at Old Trafford, and in Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge they performed very mediocre in the match against Chelsea (1-1). Ralph Rangnick arrived at the Manchester stadium on Thursday, which has been on since Friday will take over the Red Devils team at the hands of interim trainer Michael Carrick.
Later in the first half, the hosts took the initiative and very patiently built up numerous positional attacks. When it seemed that nothing special would come out of them before the break, the Red Devils were saved by Bruno Fernandez. The technically genius Portuguese confidently finished the Manchester team’s action, in which Fred showed a key pass, rehabilitating himself for knocking his own goalkeeper to the ground.
Great emotions after changing sides. Ronaldo secured United’s triumph
We had a great show at Old Trafford from the beginning of the second half. First, Gabriel had a great opportunity after Odegaard’s throw-in from the corner kick, but his header shot was perfectly saved by de Gea. Moments later, Aaron Ramsdale stopped Cristiano Ronaldo, but on the Portuguese’s second attempt, the Gunners’ goalkeeper didn’t have the slightest chance.
The CR7 confidently took advantage of Marcus Rashford’s flat cross and put the Red Devils in the lead with a close-range shot. But only for a few minutes. The gunners responded in style, and Martin Odegaard showed off with a great technical shot from the penalty area after Martinelli’s perfect play-through.
In the minutes that followed, the game was quite fast and both teams were very motivated to score the winning goal. Aubameyang had a good chance, but his powerful half-volley shot from the corner of the penalty area was aimed straight at the well-positioned David de Gea.
Moments later, Fred was clearly fouled by Odegaard in the Gunners’ penalty area. Martin Atkinson did not whistle at first, but pointed to lime after the VAR analysis. Cristiano Ronaldo approached the ball and with a strong shot into the middle of the goal he placed it firmly in the net.
Until the end of the game, Arsenal struggled to equalize, but in United’s goal David de Gea was in a great position. In the 79th minute of the game, the Spanish goalkeeper showed a sensational intervention with Aubameyang’s close-range shot.
The Red Devils ultimately achieved a well-deserved triumph, thanks to which they advanced to seventh place in the Premier League table. To the fifth Arsenal players from Old Trafford lose only two “stitches”.
