Dmitry Lukashenko, one of the sons of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, is on the US sanctions list today.
According to the US Treasury Department, the measure against him is because he is “a high-ranking government official, a member of the family of such a government official or a person closely associated with such government officials responsible or involved in corruption.” .
Earlier today, the European Council decided to impose additional sanctions on 17 individuals and 11 legal entities in Belarus. The new sanctions affect the judiciary, including the Supreme Court and the State Control Committee, as well as propaganda publications that contribute to ongoing repression against civil society, the democratic opposition, independent media and journalists.
Minsk described the new sanctions as absurd. This is not the first time Belarus has faced such challenges from the West, said the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, which said that as before, the Belarusian state will emerge stronger and pass this stage with dignity, ensuring a good level of life of his people.
