Looking at the sporty – the Herford ice hockey club is currently looking at the developing corona numbers and the associated restrictions in the various stadiums, just like all professional sport. After the changeover to the 2G rules at the Ice Dragons’ home games last weekend, it now remains to be seen in which form the games of the major league will be carried out in the future.
The team of head coach Michael Bielefeld must try to focus on the sporting part, as the season has now finally ended the starting phase. So far they can be satisfied with 8th place in the table in Herford, but the team will not rest on that. With the Krefelder EV and the TecArt Black Dragons Erfurt there are opponents that you absolutely want to beat in order to further expand the gap between both opponents.
In the Friday encounter, the Ostwestfalen will initially play away at Krefeld EV. The team around captain Björn Bombis has already met KEV twice in the imos ice rink “Im Kleinen Felde” and won with a clear 8: 0 and 9: 5. They would like to build on these successes away from home and definitely take home the three points to be awarded. The U23 team from Krefeld shouldn’t be underestimated. Again and again they surprised their opponents and two weeks ago also taught the Hanover Scorpions to fear the unfortunate 3-4 defeat after extra time. East Westphalia will have to be wide awake with the opening bull from 7.30 p.m. if you want to leave the Krefeld ice cream as a winner.
On Sunday the Black Dragons Erfurt will be guests in the ice rink “Im Kleinen Felde” at 6 pm. At the first meeting in October Herford showed a poor performance for two thirds and only woke up in the last section and started a race to catch up. But the deficit was too high and in the end Erfurt deservedly won 8: 6. The Ice Dragons want to do better this time and take back the first leg defeat.
On the occasion of the encounter between Herford and Erfurt, there is a joint fan campaign between the supporters of both teams. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the “fight against any kind of abuse” as well as the cohesion of the entire ice hockey family. The subject of abuse is dealt with in cooperation with the White Ring – Herford branch, the Herford police and the Landessportbund. Kyle Beach, now a TecArt Black Dragons Erfurt player, provides the current reference to ice hockey. A few weeks ago, it became known that the now 31-year-old striker was sexually abused by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and filed a lawsuit in the United States in May 2021. Reason enough for both Dragonslager to jointly draw attention to the problem during the game between Herford and Erfurt. Sibylle Thiel (victim protection officer of the Herford police) and Werner Martinato (Weißer Ring branch manager Herford) will be on site as contact persons, the contact persons for HockeyHeads Herford on this day are Daria Patricia Kotny and Bernd Stemmer. However, it remains to be seen whether the planned fan campaign can be carried out in view of the possible corona requirements for sporting events or whether it may have to be postponed to the second meeting of the two kite teams in February.
Those responsible at Herford EV are currently in constant contact with the city of Herford and are closely monitoring the current corona situation and possible restrictions that may arise for the Herford ice hockey location. The association will react to appropriate measures at short notice and communicate them immediately via the appropriate association media. Advance sales for the encounter on Sunday have been completely stopped as a precaution. As soon as the number of occupants in the hall has been determined, further information will follow.
