Qualcomm is working on a new mobile processor that has been named Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Compared to Qualcomm’s current top model, the Snapdragon 888, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has been upgraded in all areas. The chip’s new Kryo CPU has a high-performance Arm Cortex-X2 core that has 20% higher overall performance, while being 30% more energy efficient than its predecessor.
New integrated Adreno GPU boasts 30% faster graphics with an energy saving of 25%. Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also has a new AI engine that will be able to deliver four times more efficient artificial intelligence and machine learning than Snapdragon 888.
Other features include Snapdragon Sight, which enhances the mobile camera with a new 18-bit image signal processor that can store up to 8K video with HDR in real time. And of course the integrated Qualcomm X65 5G modem which offers theoretical 5G speeds of up to 10 Gbit / s and supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G (both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G).
Xiaomi 12
All this and more will be part of the Xiaomi 12 mobile phone, which can be launched in the Chinese home market before Christmas. It writes Android Authority.
Last year, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer was the first on the market with a mobile built on the Snapdragon 888 – namely the critically acclaimed Xiaomi Mi 11 – and now all indications are that they may repeat the success of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Xiaomi at least announced on Twitter that they are ready for a “World Debut” of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 when the company launches the upcoming flagship model, Xiaomi 12.
