The omicron variant occupies the world. While the first cases have been confirmed in this country, the number of infections in South Africa is already significantly higher. Lion whisperer Dean Schneider (29), who lives there with wild animals on an XXL farm, therefore traveled back to Switzerland with a heavy heart. He gives his followers the all-clear: “I’m alive and well. Everything is fine with me. “

For him, the return trip to his homeland was the right step. «I have some really important meetings here in Switzerland. I also want to spend the Christmas season in Switzerland with my family. That’s why I came from South Africa earlier. ” So he goes on number himself. “At the moment it can really happen that you wake up and they say: Now nobody is allowed to leave the country.”

Living in South Africa makes you lonely
Schneider owns a 360 hectare farm in South Africa, which he shares with lions, hyenas and capuchin monkeys, among others. The Zurich resident has no fear of contact and sometimes cuddles with the wild animals. He now has almost 10 million followers on Instagram about his life far from home – and thus has a greater reach on the platform than tennis star Roger Federer (40, 8.8 million followers). Nonetheless, he emphasizes: “The time in South Africa can be very lonely. That’s why I really wanted to see my family this Christmas. “

It is not the first time that the coronavirus has completely overturned Dean Schneider’s plans. In October 2020, after a few relaxing days in Switzerland, he wanted to travel back to his animals in South Africa. But his flights have been postponed again and again due to the tense corona situation. When he finally should have left, his corona test was positive. Schneider’s departure was therefore delayed again – even if it turned out in retrospect that the test results were incorrect and that he was not infected with the virus. (bnr)
