Matz Sels defended the Strasbourg cages in his victory against the Girondins de Bordeaux, 5-2, on behalf of the 16th day of Ligue 1. The goals were scored by Hwang (7th), Thomasson (22nd), Gameiro (43rd, on penalty), Ajorque (45th + 1 and 65th), Lienard (48th) and Elis (57th). Thanks to this victory, Strasbourg remains in contact with European places, in 6th position with 23 points.

On Wednesday evening, Mertens ‘Napoli and Saelemaekers’ Milan were on display for Matchday 15 of Serie A, in a distant duel for the championship lead. ‘Ciro’ Mertens stood out again with a goal against Sassuolo. Napoli made the bad deal of the evening by conceding a draw, 2-2, on the road to Sassuolo. The Serie A leaders took the advantage in the second period thanks to Fabian Ruiz (51st), then doubled their lead with a new goal from Dries Mertens (60th). Sassuolo however managed to get back into the match thanks to Scamacca (72nd) then Ferrari (89th), before inflicting cold sweats on the Neapolitans with a last goal finally refused after intervention of video refereeing (90th + 3). Dries Mertens left the game in the 66th, having scored his 4th goal in 3 league games.
AC Milan are taking advantage of this small Neapolitan slowdown after their 0-3 victory at Genoa. With a goal from Ibrahimovic (10th) and a double from the new Milan hero Junior Messias (45th + 2 and 61st), Milan returned to the standings one length behind the Neapolitan leader, who has 36 points. On the Belgian side, Zinho Vanheusden made his return as a starter in the Genoese defense after more than two months of absence and played the entire match. Among the Milanese, Alexis Saelemaekers started the game on the bench and climbed in the 77th minute in place of Tonali.
Bologna, with Arthur Theate, won 1-0 at home against AS Roma, as part of Matchday 15 of Serie A. The young Red Devil played the entire game in the heart of the Bologna defense, and was able to count on a goal from Svanberg (35th) to win. Bologna thus goes up to Juventus with 24 points, in 8th position.
SPAIN:
Real Madrid won 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao, in a late game of La Liga Matchday 9. Real consolidated its 1st place in the La Liga standings by pocketing three points against Bilbao with a new goal, the twelfth in the league, from Karim Benzema (40th). Thibaut Courtois was the holder to defend the Madrid nets throughout the meeting, but Eden Hazard remained confined to the bench.
With one game more than its neighbor Atlético, Real Madrid are 7 points ahead of the Colchoneros, second with 29 points tied with Real Sociedad de Januzaj.
