Israel fears Iran will have nuclear weapons.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JERUSALEM — Israel warned influential countries that lifting US sanctions on Iran could lead to military action. Not without reason, Israel thinks Iran can reach the nuclear threshold within six months. At that time, Israel felt the need to take unilateral action.
“I will not go into policy details, but as we have said before, we are preparing for all possibilities (to attack Iran),” Israeli military spokesman Brigadier General Ran Kochav said on Tuesday (11/30). Middle East Monitor.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid in his statement called on the world to increase threats against Iran to prevent the Iskan Republic from developing nuclear weapons. In a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Lapid stressed that Israel views the talks as an attempt by Tehran to give up its nuclear program and the world must have a ‘B’ plan.
“Sanctions must not be lifted from Iran. Sanctions must be tightened. A real military threat must be placed before Iran because that is the only way to stop its race to become a nuclear power,” Lapid was quoted as saying on the website. Jerusalem Post, Wednesday (1/12).
The meeting with Macron came a day after Lapid delivered a similar message in a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Defense Secretary Benny Gantz plans to fly to Washington next week to also discuss the nuclear threat.
Nuclear talks resumed Tuesday, after world powers and Iran regrouped in Vienna on Monday for the first time since June. The meeting was aimed at negotiating the return of Iran and the US to an agreement known as the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
