Morning Star Flag Flying In 5 Regencies And 1 City In Papua

Jayapura, Jubi – The Morning Star flag flies in five districts and one city in Papua on the anniversary December 1, Wednesday (1/12/2021). The six areas are Central Mamberamo Regency, Puncak, Bintang Mountains, Intan Jaya, Paniai, and Jayapua City.

Deputy Head of the Papuan Regional Police (Polda), Brigadier General Eko Rudi Sudarto, said that although the Morning Star was raised in several areas, the security situation in Papua on Wednesday (1/12/2021) was conducive and under control. Eko stated that his party also arrested eight people who raised the Morning Star flag in the courtyard of the Cenderawasih Sports Building (GOR), Jayapura City.

According to him, the raising of the Morning Star flag at the Cenderawasih Sports Hall took place at 13.20 WP. At that time, the Papuan Police were carrying out a ceremony to commemorate Air Air Police Day.

He stated that the eight youths who carried out the raising of the Morning Star flag were still being investigated at the Papua Regional Police Headquarters. “We immediately handled the flag-raising case carried out by six youths at the Cenderawasih Sports Center. We are currently developing an investigation as well as investigating the case,” he said.

According to him, the eight people who were arrested and questioned were FK, SK, MK, MY, YM, BA, MP, and MV. The police confiscated evidence in the form of a Morning Star flag, and two banners that read “Self Ditermination For West Papua, Stop Militerisme in West Papua” and “Indonesia Immediately Opens Access for the Investigation Team of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to West Papua”.

Eko explained, after raising the Morning Star flag on the flagpole of the Cenderawasih Sports Center, the eight youths unfurled a banner while waving a flag tied to a wooden stick that was held by the former Chairperson of the Student Executive Board of the Jayapura University of Science and Technology (USTJ), initials MY.

“After carrying out activities in the GOR yard, the eight youths walked across in front of the Papuan Police Headquarters. Members who saw immediately secured [mereka]. Then, Intelkam members immediately took down the Morning Star flag that was hoisted at the GOR,” he explained.

The Director of the General Criminal Investigation of the Papua Police, Kombes Faisal Ramadhani, said that his party was still exploring the roles of the eight youths. “From the information of several people, the activity had been planned long ago, with the aim that after raising the flag then carrying out long march towards Jayapura Port, ”said Faisal.

Faisal stated that the raising of the Morning Star did not show that the Papuan Police were not on alert. The flag-raising can be done because it takes place in a short time. “So we don’t allow it,” he said.

Faisal said that of the eight people who were arrested and questioned by the police, six of them were students. “Everything is still under investigation, before we decide on the status of the eight youths,” he concluded.
