Met Museum in New York receives record gift of 125 million dollars | Art & Literature

The donation comes from Oscar Tang and his wife Agnes Hsu-Tang, an American couple of Chinese descent. Oscar Tang left China in 1948 and arrived in the United States at the age of 11. He attended Yale and Harvard before making a fortune in finance and becoming the first American of Asian descent to join the board of the Met. Agnes Hsu-Tang is an archaeologist and art historian and a descendant of the Ming dynasty. She was a cultural advisor to President Barack Obama and to UNESCO.

The money donated by the Tangs will be used to extensively renovate the modern and contemporary art spaces, a costly project for which the Met sought funding for more than a decade. The renovated spaces will be named after the Tang couple.
