The electric cars have crossed the magic line

2021 will be a record year for electric car sales in Norway. Well, we have also reached a new milestone. Never before have more than 100,000 new electric cars been sold in one year. But that number has now passed – with one sales month left.

Seven out of ten who bought a new car in November bought an electric car, according to figures from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV). 73.8 percent market share is the second highest in a month ever.

In total, sales of electric cars ended November at 11,274. This is an increase of as much as 60.3 percent, compared to the same month last year.

If we look at sales so far this year, it is up 58 percent compared to last year. The electric shift is thus in high gear in Norway.

Tesla Model 3 is still a big seller in Norway.

2022 may be the year of the times

– Electric car sales show that we have a good course towards zero emissions on Norwegian roads. It is gratifying that 2021 will be a record year for electric cars in Norway, says Christina Bu as Secretary General of the Norwegian Electric Car Association, in a press release.

She now believes that 2022 can be the electric car year of all time in Norway. After the budget negotiations this autumn, it became clear, among other things, that the VAT exemption for electric cars will be continued and that the re-registration fee for electric cars will be cheaper than first proposed.

Electric cars as a company car are taxed 80 percent of the list price, and not 100 percent which was the government’s original proposal.

New fees – but some rechargeable hybrids will not be more expensive

One non-electric car in the top ten

Norway’s best-selling car so far this year is the Tesla Model 3. A total of 10,090 copies of this have been registered in 2021. In second place, we also find the only non-electric car in the top ten. It is the Toyota RAV4, which is a huge success in the rechargeable hybrid version.

Third place is held by Volkswagen ID.4, then there is a fairly large gap down to the Volvo XC40 in fourth place. Tesla Model Y sells in record numbers and has now passed the Ford Mustang Mach-E on the registration statistics, the two are in fifth and sixth place.

This is followed by the Audi e-tron, Skoda Enyaq, Nissan Leaf and Polestar 2.
