Singer Rihanna was honored during the celebration of Barbados’ new republic status.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, but even more of a proud people, we designate you as the national heroine of Barbados. Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty, may you continue to shine like a diamond, ”Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said on Monday, referring to the words of the superstar’s song Diamonds, present when Sandra Mason, the first president of the republic of Barbados, elected by indirect universal suffrage in October, was sworn in.
“The designation of Rihanna as the national heroine of Barbados, coinciding with the country’s transition to the status of an independent republic, could not be more appropriate”, it is written in the British newspaper The Guardian, which notes that “not only the singer has been an official ambassador for culture and youth since 2018 but she remains the most famous citizen of her country, as well as her standard-bearer. She never toned down her bajan accent [le créole de la Barbade, ndlr] and his music, mixing pop, R&B and dance, has nevertheless remained richly imprinted with his Caribbean heritage ”.
Symbol of success, the singer and brilliant businesswoman of 33 years, who weighs today 1.7 billion dollars, had indeed already been conferred in 2018 the title of ambassador plenipotentiary of the island State, responsible for promoting tourism, education and investment.
