Wonogiri — A total of three sub-districts in Wonogiri claimed to have found the most cases of HIV/AIDS. The three sub-districts are Jatisrono, Jatiroto, and Girimarto sub-districts. Meanwhile, the transmission of HIV/AIDS is mostly dominated by heterosexual behavior.
Secretary of KPA Wonogiri Suprio Heryanto said that there were 652 findings of HIV/AIDS cases in Wonogiri during the period 2001 to September 2021.
“From the information from the Wonogiri Health Office, it also found new cases, as many as 87 people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in 2018. Then as many as 79 in 2019, then decreased in 2020 to 61 people and as of September 30, 2021 the findings of new cases were and 31 cases, Suprio said when confirmed by the media crew in Wonogiri, Tuesday (30/11).
According to him, in Wonogiri the transmission pattern is mostly heterosexual. If calculated, there are 68 percent of all existing cases. Then the second pattern is housewives and the third is MSM (men have sex with men).
“Heterosexuals are mutually partners. The pattern in Wonogiri is that many migrant workers return home and do not know their HIV status and then pass it on to their wives,” he said.
Suprio explained that the number of new cases found in the MSM group increased nationally. MSM is in the group with the most PLWHA in the top three in Wonogiri since the last five years.
He added that as an effort to prevent, control, and control HIV/AIDS in Wonogiri, the district government is working hand in hand with the Gajah Mungkur Peer Support Group (KDS).
This community plays a role in assisting PLWHA and reaching out to vulnerable groups. Where in Wonogiri currently there are 400 PLWHA who are still alive and some are joined and monitored by the KDS.
In addition, there is also the Mitra Alam Foundation whose role is to reach out to vulnerable groups, related Regional Apparatus Organizations, and empowering people who care about AIDS (WPA).
“HIV/AIDS is mostly a social problem. When it comes to health services, everything is ready. Social problems in the form of stigma and discrimination,” he said.
