The Paris Saint-Germain offensive player suffered a sprained left ankle with a ligament injury in Sunday’s 3-1 win against AS St. Etienne and is out for six to eight weeks. Investigations in the next three days should provide further information, PSG announced on Monday.
“Unfortunately, these setbacks are part of an athlete’s life,” Neymar wrote on Instagram: “I’ll come back better and stronger.” Brazil legend Pele wrote: “I know your stamina. You will master this challenge.” For 29-year-old Neymar, it is the next serious foot injury after 2018 and 2019.
Shortly before the end of a duel, Neymar twisted his neck, screamed in pain and had to be carried off the field in tears. He later left the stadium on crutches.
