Big things were happening on Steam over the weekend. In connection with the ongoing discounts and the mood of people to spend during the real Black Friday, the record was broken in the number of concurrent players. And there was an interesting development in the field of individual games – namely Farming Simulator 22, Battlefield 2042 and Cyberpunk 2077. That the listed titles have nothing in common at first glance, is probably clear, yet they appeared in statistics and at least partially affected the world of video games gradually worked his way to the end of this season.
Most Steam users in history
In January and February this year, Steam users broke the record for the number of concurrently connected people – the counter last hit the limit of 26,401,443 players. The success was partly attributed to the coronavirus pandemic, in which people spend more time at home, which, moreover, was already pronounced last year and the situation is starting to recur after less than a year. The new record that was measured over the weekend, currently has a value of 27,384,959 concurrent accounts, but the record for the number of concurrent players has not been broken. There were those just 7.8 million against a record 8.1 million players from March 2020, which seems to indicate that more was bought than played. After all, the combination of ongoing discounts, Black Friday, Thanksgiving and events continuing on Monday predicted similar numbers and it is likely that records will increase with the approaching Christmas.
Farming Simulator 22 plays more people on Steam than Battlefield 2042
Another funny interesting thing is that Farming Simulator 22 surpassed the current Battlefield 2042 in terms of player involvement. According to the SteamDB portal, working with live data from Steam, almost 88,000 players farmed yesterday afternoon, while after battlefield less than 50,000 of them ran. Also, the value of the largest number of concurrent players in the past 24 hours is similarly different, only in six days peaku both games meet at the same 105 thousand. However, it should be noted that a large number of players undoubtedly play thanks to the EA Play subscription and run their game via Origin, although the subscription is also available on Steam. Consoles also get a lot of attention, where it is possible to assume a significant superiority of Battlefield before the action from Giants Software.
Very positive Cyberpunk 2077
As we briefly informed you in Friday’s news summary, thanks to the Cyberpunk 2077 discount and the new owners of this game, more reviews have started to appear on Steam to a greater extent. Unlike the more critical ones that came before – even though they also have a score on Steam mostly positive – the best began to prevail, that is very positive. Players praise the story, the look of the city, the imaginative characters of the supporting characters, but also the fixes that the developers managed to bring to the game before the announcement that all other patches will arrive in 2022. Quest director Paweł responded to the whole situation around Cyberpunk on Twitter. Saxony, who pointed out that 23,000 recent reviews rate the game very positively, and the two big titles of the Project CD – Cyberpunk 2077 and The Sorcerer 3 – are also on the list of best-selling titles on Steam.
