Chub. Before Corona cut off all activities again, the competition dance groups of the Children’s and Youth Sports Club (KJSC) Döbeln have had a rather turbulent competition season this year. Last year there wasn’t much going on, said dancer Reneé Penkalla. The autumn season could still be completed this year.

On October 9th, the dance groups Skip and Akzep.Tanz took part in the regional championship in Griesheim. Skip took 4th place. “We were very surprised. Skip started in the main group for the first time, ”said Reneé Penkalla. Aktzep.Tanz even came in third and qualified for the German Cup in Dresden.

There the dance group surprisingly came in 6th place. Against groups from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. “We didn’t expect that,” said Reneé Penkalla. The association dances in the regional league for jazz and modern dance in an extra category for smaller dance groups up to seven members.

Qualified for world championships

Sometimes the formations also throw themselves together to compete in a tournament. In September they qualified as a “task” at a tournament in Freiburg / Breisgau with 4th place for the World Cup in Poland. “Unfortunately we had to decide against it. It should take place in December. There was no guarantee that it would take place and we would have been left with the costs, ”said Reneé Penkalla. “But we don’t give up hope and try again.”

Members of the club also danced in the duo category at various tournaments. Lisa Fiesel and Patricia Draßdo were also able to qualify for the German Cup and came in 9th. Corona had also paralyzed training for a long time this year.

Children from three years of age dance at the KJSC. “Many groups have trained online. But it’s not the same. Everyone was full of anticipation that it would start again, ”said Reneé Penkalla. Now the dance groups hope that the competition can take place again in the coming year.
