Booster (third) vaccinations against coronavirus can help people protect themselves from its new version of Omicron, which has already been recorded in many parts of the world. The best vaccines for this immunization are Pfizer and Moderna.
This was stated by the head of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI), Professor Wei Shen Lim from Britain. His words are quoted Express.
The expert noted that the Omicron strain contains mutations that can outsmart the immune response provided by current COVID vaccines. He also stressed that data on how well-known drugs are effective against this option have not yet appeared.
“The vaccines used all over the world have been developed against the first type of coronavirus and are not intended for new strains,” he explained.
The greater the “mismatch” between vaccines and newer options, the greater the likelihood of getting rid of immunity, he said. In response to this, says Professor Lim, it is necessary to introduce a revaccination program, extending it to all adults over 18 years of age.
