Shiffrin was second after the first round, but she finished second well, while her biggest rival Petra Vlhová made a mistake. The Slovak defender of the big crystal globe, who reigned twice in Levi last week, finished second. Third place went to Swiss Wendy Holdener.

Dubovská rode among the elite for the 90th time. In the first round, she lost more than two seconds to Vlhová and was sixteenth. She started the second run more vigorously, but did not hold her position and lost two positions. It did not follow last year’s sixth place in Finland.

There have been four slaloms in Killington so far, and Shiffrin has won them all. A week ago, the American woman always took silver for Vlhová in both races in Finland, and it looked like second place after the first round this year as well. After the second race, however, they exchanged positions this time.

For the American, Killington is practically a home slope, and before the conversation she was moved, emotionally cried, and it took her a while to speak. “I’m happy as I rode the second round. I didn’t make as much of a mistake as Petra. I fought. It means a lot to me,” said Shiffrin, who celebrated her 71st World Cup overall.

Unlike Dubovská, Gabriela Capová did not make it into the scoring thirty. Out of 63 slalom skiers, she took 51st place in the 1st round with a shortfall of more than five seconds to the best.

Another slalom of the World Championships is on the show in December 29 in Lienz, Austria. Next week, they will start speeding with Ester Ledecká in Lake Louise, Canada.
