WhatsApp (WA) has launched an open beta version of a new feature, namely multi-device. Through this feature, WA can be used without having to connect the main cellphone to the internet, but simply connect the internet on a PC.
The feature enhances the capabilities of the previous WA application, where one account can be accessed on the phone and the web at the same time. But with a note that the phone must remain connected to the internet.
For the multi-device feature, the main phone doesn’t need to be connected to the internet anymore or the battery dies. That way WA can be run on other devices.
“With this new capability you can now use WhatsApp on your phone and up to 4 other non-phone devices at the same time, even if your phone’s battery dies,” says the page. Engineering Facebook quoted on Saturday (27/11/2021), as reported by CNBC Indonesia.
The multi-device feature is still in beta or in the trial stage but can be used if the user is registered in the program. To try out the trial version, WA recommends that users update or update the application to the latest version.
All users of the regular version of the application and the Business Beta on both Android and iOS can take part in the trial. Users also have to make sure WA is up to date in order to join the beta testing.
Here’s how to use WA without internet.
How to Use WhatsApp Without Internet on iOS
1. Open WhatsApp Settings
2. Select Linked Device
3. Select Beta multi-device
4. Tap Join Beta
How to Use WhatsApp Without Internet on Android
1. Open the WhatsApp application
2. Tap the three vertical dots icon in the top right corner
3. Select Linked Device
4. Select Beta multi-device
5. Tap Join Beta
After the user connects the companion device, the computer or phone will send a copy of the most recent message history to the device that was recently connected. Note, the account is already connected to the multi-device beta feature
No need to worry about security because WA claims that this feature encrypts messages end-to-end. The message history will later be saved on the companion device.
The security and privacy of users is ensured to be maintained by the parent company Meta. The company, formerly known as Facebook, said this was maintained through end-to-end encryption, which was already used in WA.
“It is important that we have developed new technology to maintain end-to-end encryption while still managing to sync your data such as contact names, chat archives, starred messages and more across devices,” said Facebook.
Please note that if the phone is not used for more than 14 days, the linked device will be disconnected. In addition, the multi-device beta feature also cannot work on older versions of WA.
Sending messages or calls to other users is considered unsuccessful if the recipient is still using the old version of WA. In addition, the multi-device feature will not work on tablets.
WA also gives users the ability to opt out of this beta trial. For Android, repeat the previous method to Multi-device Beta and click Exit Beta. As for iPhone, when you are in multi-device Beta click Exit Beta. (CNBC/Red)
