Corona pandemic: Incidence increased – new measures?

Status: 11/28/2021 8:49 a.m.

According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence has increased by around two points to 446.7. It is particularly bad in Saxony. The demands for contact restrictions and compulsory vaccination are increasing.

In Germany, the seven-day incidence of new corona infections has risen to 446.7. This was announced by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). On Saturday it was 444.3. The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected with the corona virus in the past seven days.

The health authorities reported 44,401 new infections to the RKI, 1674 more than on Sunday a week ago. 104 other people died in connection with the coronavirus, making a total of 100,883 deaths.

Incidence in Saxony at 1205

The number of infections remains high, especially in the south and east of Germany. In Saxony, the seven-day incidence rose to 1205.5 – this is still the highest value among the 16 federal states. This is followed by Thuringia with 878.4 and Saxony-Anhalt with 719.7. In Brandenburg the value has risen to over 700 and is now 709.4. Bavaria has an incidence of 632.2. Schleswig-Holstein continues to have the lowest value with 150.8.

The district of the Erzgebirge is the only one with an incidence value above 2000 at 2021.9. There are now only five districts in Germany with a value below 100.

Appeals from Steinmeier and Karliczek

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged citizens to prevent a lockdown through voluntary contact restrictions. “Let’s stick to the rules, let’s reduce our contacts again,” wrote Steinmeier in a guest post for “Bild am Sonntag”.

The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina had previously called for mandatory vaccinations and contact restrictions. Unvaccinated people must be motivated or made responsible, according to a published appeal by scientists: “This is the only way to save the citizens of our society from further disastrous consequences.”

The acting Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek called for the Leopoldina recommendations to be implemented immediately. “Politicians should follow the advice of science without hesitation. We mustn’t lose any more time,” said the CDU politician to the dpa news agency.

The likely future Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke of “new dramatic challenges” and emphasized that there was nothing that was not taken into account.

When is it mandatory to vaccinate clinics?

The acting Federal Minister of Labor, Hubertus Heil, would like to implement mandatory vaccinations for clinics and homes before Christmas. “I think it’s right that, in a first step, before Christmas, we ensure that there is a mandatory vaccination in clinics, care, elderly and disabled facilities,” he told “Bild am Sonntag”. The SPD politician also advocates a general vaccination requirement.

Lauterbach criticizes full stadiums

Also in “Bild am Sonntag”, SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach criticized full football stadiums as “highly problematic” despite the dramatic Corona situation. “People do not get infected in the stadium, but the journey and the celebrations after the game are the sources of infection. Therefore, games in a full stadium are currently not acceptable.”

On Saturday, the match between 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach took place in front of 50,000 spectators under 2G conditions.

Hospitalization incidence just under six

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday as 5.97 (Thursday: 5.79). The value is not reported on the weekend. It plays an essential role in assessing what is happening in the infection.

The intensive care units of the hospitals are already overloaded regionally. On Friday, the Bundeswehr helped move patients from Bavaria to North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time. Within the federal states, patients have been transferred to less busy clinics for a long time.
