“People have to think carefully about what they are doing. I have seen death up close,” says Valentin Roosen from his hospital bed. The man, like his wife, refused the corona vaccine, and ended up in intensive care at the Vesalius Hospital in Tongeren five weeks ago.

Roosen now regrets his refusal and wants to call on everyone to get vaccinated. “People have to think carefully about what they are doing. Vaccination, mask and everything hanging around. The doctors and nurses are saving us here. We need to be more respectful and less selfish.”
Roosen will no longer be quite the old one. According to the doctors, a lung transplant is the only way for the sixty-year-old to lead a normal life.
