Earplugs are small devices and therefore difficult to repair. To see if this also applies to the AirPods 3 and Beats Fit Pro, the people at iFixit decided to take them apart. Conclusion: these earplugs take the cake. And that is anything but positive.
When the editors of the website do their famous test, you know that there are some big secrets lurking here and there. Apple’s own products are, partly thanks to this test, not very well known for their accessibility in this area. The new earplugs are a whole new story, by the way.
AirPods 3 and Beats Fit Pro analyzed
The editors’ findings can be seen in the below video. In it, iFixit discusses the repairability of the accessories, by subjecting them to a complete teardown. It also looks at specific hardware onboard the new AirPods. Like the part that provides Spatial Audio support.
In general, earplugs are difficult to repair because they are quite compact. But this does not mean that such a thing is always impossible. It just depends on how such a device is built on the inside. However, we have bad news for the AirPods 3 and Beats Fit Pro: repairing them yourself is hardly an option.
Fix your earplugs yourself
Fixing your earplugs yourself is therefore not an option. It is almost impossible to replace the battery, according to iFixit. Moreover, it is very difficult for Jan with the cap (and also the somewhat advanced technicians among us) to assemble the earplugs after a teardown. This applies to both the new AirPods and the new Beats.
It happens more often that iFixit gives low scores to Apple products. These are often more difficult to repair. However, the AirPods 3 and the Beats Fit Pro are given the number zero for the reasons above. So that’s zero out of ten possible points. So if you have any problems, just send them back to Apple.
